True Bloom Roses was born from a shared vision — and a bold challenge. In 2012, the Altman Family and renowned rose breeder Ping Lim joined forces with a singular mission: to create roses that are not only breathtakingly beautiful, but naturally resilient. Starting from thousands of carefully selected crosses each year, and evaluating over 10 million seedlings, True Bloom has grown into the largest rose breeding program in North America focused on breeding true, classic rose flowers with built-in disease resistance and environmental toughness. What began as a dream project 14 years ago is now setting a new standard for what a rose can be. True Bloom is now globally becoming the fastest growing rose standard all across the world.
True Bloom Roses® are proudly grown by Altman Plants, one of the largest horticultural growers in the United States. What began as a small mail-order business has grown into a family-owned company spanning over 4,000 acres of greenhouse and nursery production. From developing new varieties in our breeding programs to growing and shipping plants directly to gardeners, Altman Plants is involved in every step—ensuring the quality, care, and performance behind every rose we grow.
Proven to Perform
Great roses don't happen by accident. Every True Bloom Rose® starts with careful hand pollination, selecting only the most promising combinations from thousands of parent plants. From there, each variety is put to the test at 25 trial locations across North America — from cold northern climates to hot southern summers — to make sure it can thrive wherever you garden.
Our trials don't go easy on these roses. They're grown without chemical sprays and deliberately exposed to the most common rose problems, like Black Spot and Powdery Mildew. Only the varieties that have the strongest resilliance naturally — on their own, without your help — make the cut.
The result? A rose that's already done the hard work before it ever reaches your garden. Beautiful, fragrant and full blooms you'd expect from a classic rose, with the toughness and easy care of a shrub rose. Just plant it, enjoy it, and let it do the rest.
Ping Lim
Ping Lim journey in roses was quite unconventional. Ping Lim was born and grew up in Laos. Surrounded by tropical plants but not known for a lot of roses in the tropical environment. For school, Ping moved to Taiwan and received his degree in horticulture from National Taiwan University. There Professor Lee inspired Ping’s love for Roses. From there he studied in Japan and across Asia learning the art of breeding roses and the types of roses people loved.
He first moved to North America landing in San Fransico, since then he has moved across the country continuing breeding some of the most beloved roses to be found.
Ping has been recognized for his rose innovations with an abundance of award from ARTS (the American Rose Trial for Sustainability) such as; for his hybrid tea 'True Passion' (Double10)TM plus four other awards from the Biltmore, Rose Hill International Rose Trials, AGRS (American Garden Rose Selection) and 6 awards at the Japan Flower Selections including Best Flower award—all included in the line of TrueBloom® hybrid tea shrub roses.
His lifelong mission is to design stunning roses that can be grown by anyone, anywhere, without any harmful chemicals.
